HO Cheerleading!!!

29 01 2010

Looking back at everything that we’ve been through together the past few months, i personally feel that we have come a long way. Despite various setbacks and injuries that we’ve encountered, we still managed to pull off an unprecedented consecutive win two years in a row. The many times we went through our routine and our various stunts the sweat blood and tears, the injuries were all worth it.

The excitement on that day was palpable. Before our turn came to perform, everyone was busy mentally preparing and going through the routine in our minds. Cold hands and nervous smiles were all around. However, all changed when the MC announced our team. Running in to the large hall filled with a thousand odd people was exhilarating. The feeling of so many people cheering for our team was really amazing. When we heard the shout “SEVEN READY!” our months of training took over. We moved to the music and routine flawlessly as we had practiced over and over again during our nightly trainings. Our momentum grew with each and every successful stunt. At the end of the routine with every single stunt successful we felt ecstatic that we were able to pull off such a wonderful performance for the entire crowd.

Waiting in the crowd for the results to be announced was the most nerve wracking part of the entire HO. After knowing the results of 3rd and 2nd, the knowledge that we would either get 1st or nothing  terrified all the waiting cheerleaders. Gripping each other’s hands tightly we waited with bated breath when the first place champion was going to be announced. When the MC announced us as the champions, we really felt on top of the world. To hold the trophy was to realise all our dreams, hopes, blood, sweat and tears.

Trudging down this path to the gold was certainly not an easy task for everyone on the team. To the seniors who have made history by being the first Hall to win cheer champions consecutively and to the juniors whose first taste of cheerleading was winning the gold, this certainly was the perfect end to the perfect day.

For the last time this year, SEVEN! FOR GOLD!

23rd Jan,Hall 7 Vs Hall 15 Softball Finals

25 01 2010

For the 12 girls that were on SRC’s softball field, the game meant much as we played for Gold. The meeting time was set at 7am, that would not prove too early for our girls that day.

Despite having been through 4 matches, it was easier said than difficult to keep our restlessness down. We were batting first and our team had definitely placed their batting skills to proper use.

We managed to score well within our first inning, as Jia Ling, our very first batter, had gave us a good start to the game, securing a good hit that landed her on the 2nd base.

In the second inning, subsequent good hits which secured our batters two bases also included Amanda Yee and Junxin. The game tension was kept constantly high even when we took our fielding positions. Tze Hao, Wai Lun and Qixun, who took turns to base coach us, always manage to put us in the right places with their guidance. At least 3 fly balls were successfully secured by us, including catches by Jinzhen and Huixin.

Our spirits were kept high till the very last minute in the last inning, although hall 15’s hits proved to be challenging as we had to deal with hits far and beyond. We did not win eventually, but we played one of our best. We fought hard and were enjoying the game up till the very last minute. We were happy nevertheless, and to quote Amanda Yee, “Even though we didn’t get the champion title, I still think we won the most this IH!” For now, please do await Team Se7en’s softball girls’ return for IHG 10/11! We’ll definitely be back for more!

Hall 7 Vs Hall 5 Soccer!!!

20 01 2010
Hall 7        3
Hall5         0

St. Wilfred Artificial Turf

Se7en’s soccer team not just secured passage into the quarter-finals with this determined display but also dished out sweet revenge to the team that once won it in a friendly. Victory, however, was not so straightforward as in the previous match where the team totally dominated Hall 1 from start to end. Hall 5 definitely had chances of their own, especially via headed attempts from corners.
Cax scored the first goal, no prizes for guessing right, hitting his penalty with aplomb and accuracy this time after Yao Liang was hauled to the ground illegally. Yao Liang then made it 2-0, being at the right place at the right time to tap in the rebound when the opponent goalie spilled a shot. The game was all but over when somehow the ball squirmed over the line in the closing stages.
Positives to take note of were the gritty determination displayed by the team, as well as taking our chances when they came, hence the chance to goal ratio was quite high unlike in the previous game where despite winning 8-0, many easy chances went begging. However, Hall 5 were no pushovers and were unlucky to not have made more of their chances.
Onwards, Se7en!

Hockey Male

8 01 2010

It was yet another exciting match that awaited us on the morning of the 5th. We were up against Hall 16 for the quarters round; we needed to win this match to make it into the Semi Finals. As the match started, supporters as usual cheered their loudest as our players performed smooth and successive passes. However, this match did not seem like an easy fight for Team Se7en today. The players tried their best to drive into the scoring zone but Hall 16’s goalie was also determined to do his job well. Halfway through the first half of the game though, Kai Bin managed to send a superb hit right up to the goalpost. Kimizi, seeing the progression of the ball, had then made the goal possible with a deflection with his stick. The ball had come up unexpectedly difficult for the goalie to stop.

The score was now 1-0, but our Team had refused to let the score stop there. They had tried yet again to send more attacks to the goal. At this point of time, Kaibin amazed us with his quick reflex and immediate response. A sweep of the ball once into the goalpost was stopped by 16’s persevering goalie. Because of the close distance that lied between Kaibin and the goalie, it had caused him and the goalie to be on fours. However, that did not stop Kaibin, he managed to reach out and send another hit straight into the goalpost. It was an impressive score, and we successfully held the score down at 2-0.

Badminton: Hall 7 versus Hall 13

6 01 2010

First match to start the ‘shuttles’ going was women’s singles. Collin, an experienced player from hall 7 won the match at a score of 21 against 0 for both games. Her powerful serves were sufficient to put her opponent at a difficult spot, which is of no surprise that she was able to take the match with ease.
Up next was men’s singles. Jamie from hall 7 put up a good match with steady strokes and footwork. He won with a score of 21 against 4 and 21 against 11 for the first and second games correspondingly.
One memorable part of men’s doubles was the authoritative smashes executed by Hall 7’s players. The smashes made the match more impactful and worthy of watching. Men’s doubles walked away with hall 7 winning a score of 21 against 11 and 21 against 5.
Next match was mixed doubles and hall 7’s mixed players displayed good chemistry and took the match with no difficulty. The match ended with a scoring of 21 against 6 and 21 against 7 respectively.
The last match was women’s doubles. It was another match taken with ease due to the inexperienced players from hall 13. Hall 7 won with scores of 21 against 3 and 21 against 6 respectively.
Overall, hall 7 displayed good teamwork throughout the matches and last but not least, kudos to all players!

30th Dec Hockey Female

2 01 2010

One year ago, Team Se7en Hockey Girls’ had unfortunately, been ousted out of the games by sudden death. However, this year, the team was more than determined in not letting it happen all over again.

The game began with many of the players anxious. Having played with Hall 8 previously, our seniors knew well enough whom to look out for. We were even prepared for our defense against them. Still, tension could be felt as the game started. It was a tiring game as compared to previously when we saw our players covering more miles up and down the pitch. However, our passes were not up to standard as compared to trainings, and many of the passes by Lynn into empty spaces had ended up going out of boundary.  Our possession rate was not good, and we hardly had any chance to score. This was not going to be an easy game, – Hall 8 was fighting as hard as we were.

As the first half ended 0-0, there were worrisome expressions on our faces, with a very strong sense of foreboding. Lynn had then stressed us for better response, faster reaction to run into spaces to receive the ball even as we keep our guard up for interceptions. As we went back onto the pitch for the second round of play, stress had increased within us players to get a goal in within the second half despite the fatigue.

Our defense apparently got stronger as our time went by. Shee Yin took much of the effort to defend the strongest player of them, displaying her best. Amanda Yee as well, managed to sweep off many of Hall 8’s offenses. We had greater assurance with our tight defense, and cheers rose as to what happened within the next few minutes. Shee Yin had smoothly tried to drive the ball in to miles within the goalpost, together with the assistance of Aneesa and Lynn from behind.

In her drive, Shee Yin was awarded a penalty, we were given a short corner. The ball was driven in to Aneesa, who was strongly guarded, but her quick reaction immediately prompted her to drive it back up to Amanda Lim who was standing free of defenders.  A perfect sweep and HOLA! The echo of the ball striking the board of the goalpost had many of us, including the players on pitch jumping for joy. The happiness within us was so evident it could be felt even among our supporters. It was now 1-0 and less than 5 minutes till the end of the game. As we recollected ourselves, many of our players came back to play a forceful defense as we counted down to the end of the game. We had to stay strong as there was a risk of a draw.

After what seemed like ages, the whistle finally went off. Our players ran up to hug our star of the day, Amanda. Team Se7en did it yet again, and now, what we are to do, is to train hard for our Semi Final game. We still have a long way to go..!

2 01 2010

12 hours before our Hockey games, what was one of the worse things that could happen for Team Se7en? It was déjà vu for our senior players as our Goalie informed us that she had personal matters to attend to and could not come for the games the next day.

The next 12 hours followed with tension within the Hockey players. Luckily for us, hours before the games started, we had a savior. Junxin was willing to be our goalie for the day, and we were going to train her in the morning for that. Goalie for two years, Steven assisted us in warming our keeper up. Armed with keeper pads, Junxin was a savior that day for Team Se7en.

Team Se7en was up against Hall 13. Our first line up was strong and ready, albeit slightly anxious. Our attacks were steady as our midfielders put their stamina to the test. Before we even knew it, the first goal was scored with resounding cheers within seconds! Amanda Lim, our right attack, had scored without the slightest hesitation, bringing our cheers to a high as we were shocked by the fast scoring.

Our attackers had managed to keep the game mostly on the other half of the pitch. Our midfielders demonstrated amazing energy as they managed to cover almost every spot of the huge pitch. Shiling, Shee Yin and Aneesa showed no sign of wanting to give up the chase down on Hall 13.

The second goal was a surprising score as Fei Juan, our left attack struggled at the goalpost while everyone else watched on intently. As the umpire declared the goal, Team Se7en’s confidence boosted to a new high, we were determined to win this game!

Aneesa did us the last favour as she weaved past defender after defender. Her carefully directed movements had succeeded in keeping us our third goal. For us, it was an unexpectedly good win.

As the game ended, smiles were seen on all our faces as we got through our first hurdle. However, we were up for something tougher. Our next game was against Hall 2, which had players whom we were already noticing before our game started. We geared ourselves up for a challenge as reminders were repeated as to not to be so complacent.

The second game had our defenders working considerably harder. In trying to contain the ball and preventing the score, our defenders managed to hold the attackers down. As the game neared to an end, we could feel the heat within the spectators. Shi Ling was struggling with an aching shoulder as we tried our best to score.

Our efforts paid off. Jinzhen managed to perform a spectacular pass to Fei Juan, who subsequently drove the ball in with a loud announcement as it hit the back of the goalpost.  Our attackers high fived immediately in the joyous moods ever, we had to defend even more tightly now. We have to make this possible!

Leaving only 3 minutes into the game, we strived to defend the goal in order to prevent going into extended time, or even, flicks.

When the whistle went off, there were no words to describe the relief that we felt within, Team Se7en has managed to make it through the prelimaries!

No matter which opponent we were up for next, we are now better prepared, stronger with every succeeding match. And say it again, its Team Se7en FTW!
